Retail Directions, based in Melbourne, Australia; was established in 1993 as a specialist retail consulting organisation. However, it was quickly uncovered that what retailers needed the most was a good, reliable, and modern retail management system – both for point of sale (POS) and head office. Since there was no such system available off-the-shelf, we decided to take up the challenge and build the world’s best retail system.
In 1994 we developed and first released SalesCube®: an innovative On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) tool, allowing retailers to perform in-depth analysis of sales, profit and stock – years before the concepts such as data warehousing and data cubing became common in the industry. This was followed by the development of RMS, the Head Office merchandising and logistics management system. The first live installation of RMS was deployed in 1995 for a large Australian jeans retailer.
In 1997 we released SMS, an innovative point of sale (POS) system, completely integrated with RMS. The Body Shop Australia was the first user of this advanced system, equipped with the intuitive user interface. After a world-wide search, in 1999 The Body Shop International chose our SMS as the POS solution for continental Europe and the UK.
Since its inception, Retail Directions has continued growing from strength to strength, including appointing a North American reseller in 2005. Not limited by vertical markets, our software now runs in a multitude of countries including Australia, New Zealand and Singapore to US, UK, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, France, Denmark and Austria.
